Early Life
Dua Lipa was born in London to Albanian parents from Kosovo. Her father, Dukagjin Lipa, is a marketing manager and a former lead vocalist in a Kosovo rock band, while her mother, Anesa Lipa, works in tourism. Lipa attended Sylvia Young Theatre School part-time before moving to Pristina, Kosovo, with her family in 2008. She later returned to London at the age of 15 to pursue a career in music, living independently while finishing her studies at Parliament Hill School.
Career
Her music career began when she started posting covers of her favorite songs on YouTube. In 2015, she signed with Warner Bros. Records and released her first single, "New Love." She gained widespread recognition with her follow-up single, "Be the One," which charted in several countries.
Her eponymous debut album, "Dua Lipa," was released in 2017 and included hits like "IDGAF" and the global smash "New Rules." The latter became her first UK number-one single. Lipa won the Brit Award for British Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act in 2018.
In 2020, she released her critically acclaimed second studio album, "Future Nostalgia," which included hits such as "Don't Start Now," "Physical," "Break My Heart," and "Levitating." The album won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album, and "Don't Start Now" received Grammy nominations for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance.
